	In the state of Virginia and in Virginia Beach it is the law that you must be certified to practice massage. Unfortunately our community still has many spas, salons and chiropractic/massage centers that employ people to do massage that are not ethically qualified or professionally trained to perform massage. Sometimes facilities charge lower rates for these non-certified workers and sometimes they charge professional rates even though they are not delivering the work of a well trained certified therapist. All of our therapists have graduated from an accredited massage school. Each therapist has taken and passed the National Certification Exam for massage therapists. All of our therapists are certified in Virginia by the Board of Nursing. Being certified in massage means that you are well educated and practiced in regards to performing massage therapy techniques. All of our therapists are able to choose and perform any therapeutic massage technique to provide the best service to our clients. There are so many terms given today for massage. Some of the more common terms include sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, medical massage, neuromuscular therapy and Swedish Massage or deep tissue. All of these terms are really about naming different strategies in working on clients. They are all massage and any certified therapist working at Balance Therapeutic Massage will know how to do all of these techniques as needed for each client.
